The Las Vegas City Counsel approved Ordinance No. 6654 to amend the marijuana regulations and prevent stand alone retail marijuana stores. Going forward, applicants for retail marijuana stores must also hold a medical marijuana dispensary license. The new ordinance will increase the compliance cost for retail operations as applicants will need to understand and ensure there are appropriate controls for medical marijuana regulations.
The Las Vegas City Counsel also approved Ordinance No. 6656 to amend the zoning requirements for marijuana stores by removing the restriction that the premises may not be used for other purposes except for educating persons on the use of marijuana. This amendment may signal additional changes to the zoning laws that would permit social use venues. The City Counsel will review a proposal to permit social use venues at its December 5, 2018 meeting.
