Oregon’s New Medical Marijuana Purchase Limit Takes Effect December 28, 2018

The Oregon Liquor Control Commission (OLCC) has adopted new daily personal sales limit of medical marijuana that are intended to address possible diversionary activity by registered cardholders. Under the new limit, registered cardholders can purchase 8 ounces of usable marijuana in one day but no more than 32 ounces in one calendar month.

In August, the OLCC temporarily reduced the limit from 24 ounces to 1 ounce, which is the same limit as recreational marijuana, after inventory data revealed that certain registered cardholders were purchasing the maximum amount of medical marijuana on a daily basis. Due to the frequency and size of the purchases, the OLCC immediately implemented a temporary rule that was effective from August 24 through December 27, 201 8. The OLCC worked with the industry to develop a solution that addressed possible diversionary concerns while ensuring registered cardholders with access to medical marijuana.
