Kentucky House Passes Resolution Urging Social Media to Allow Hemp Advertising

The Kentucky House of Representatives unanimously passed a resolution that urges social media companies including Facebook, eBay, YouTube and Amazon to allow the marketing of industrial hemp products. Kentucky is a leading producer of industrial hemp with over 6,700 acres planted to date. The Kentucky Legislature believes that the marketing of industrial hemp products is legal given the passage of the Farm Bill and removal of industrial hemp from the controlled substances list. HCR 43 states that social media companies, including Facebook, prevent the marketing of industrial hemp products by limiting advertisements and removing web pages operated by industrial hemp business owners. The resolution urges the social media companies to review internal policies and permit industrial hemp business owners to market products to the platforms’ users.
